The 1991 24 Hours du Mans was won by the iconic rotary-engined Mazda 787B driven by Volker Weidler, Johnny Herbert and Bertrand Gachot. It was the first victory at Le Mans for a Japanese car, beating off it's factory-entered Mercedes, Jaguar and Peugeot rivals, and, it is said by many, to be the greatest sounding car ever at Le Mans.
